The recent resurgence of time pieces and the timeless need for maintenance, however, has kept Basch’s client numbers healthy, he said. “It has decreased, but now it’s coming back again because all manufacturers are transitioning back, whether automatic or self-winding time pieces.”Īccording to Basch, quartz time pieces, which are often battery operated, became popular from the 1950s to the 1990s, leading to fewer repairs needed by clients. “We’re still doing the same thing, just not doing as much just because the scope of mechanical watches isn’t as prevalent,” Basch said. The need for time piece repairs, however, has changed a bit since Basch first started his business, he said. The business now makes the most revenue from retail sale, providing new and used jewelry and watches, while also repairing clocks and watches for clients.īasch’s Moment in Time also receives time pieces from retailers from around the country to repair since they have access to brand name parts. “I ran out of room, so we put holes in the walls and made it more of a jewelry store setting,” Basch said.
